On this page a selection of photos from my travel to China in january 2000 will be shown.1) After 23 hours of travel we arrived to Guangzhou (Canton) at lunch time sunday 9/1. We had traveled from Norrköping via Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Hongkong. Here is a view of the Garden hotel in Guangzhou with around 2000 rooms.

4) We met the very helpful and polite Mr. Kelvin Peng at the hotel for a late dinner on the Sunday evening.
I have no pictures from that evening, but tuesday evening we visited a similar restaurant and then I brought my
camera. At the doorstep of the restaurant there were some cages with "food" which probably had longer time to live than the "food" inside the restaurant. At the bottom to the left there are 4 cats in a cage.![]()
5) Inside the restaurant there were also one cat in a cage, he probably survived the evening as he was still there when we left the restaurant later in the evening.

6) There were a lot of other animals possible to order for our meal, most of them were "water living" animals. Some of the snakes in the foreground were on our menu.

7) The lady in the gray dress took our food orders and the guy in the blue dress picked up the animals that were ordered. Anders Holmring tries to check what the secretary of our Peking office (in black) chooses for our meal. Anders Westerlund watches the snakes, even Kenneth can be seen behind Anders Westerlund.

9) We visited a very nice part of the town where diplomats from foreign countries live and have their residences. The building in the background is a hotel "two swans". View from the park close to the "pearl river".

10) A view from the same park over the Pearl river where a lot of new building are growing up.

11) Another view of a canal floating out into the Pearl river, with gas bubbling up from the water smelling terrible.

12) On our way to the airport Wednesday afternoon I took some snapshots from the taxi window. Anders and Anders coming in a red taxi after us. The taxi trying in a typical manner to cover two driving fields at the same time to see which one that is fastest. It is also a typical town road where a lot of the roads were built as bridges.

13) A lot of building activities were ongoing in the streets. The scaffolds (supporting platforms for the worker) were made of bamboo.

That was all from Guangzhou. Soon some pictures from Hongkong will follow later. /Johnny

17) On board the ferry to Kowloon. On the ferry we noticed that Anders Westerlund was missing, but with the excellent working mobile phone system they have in Hongkong we could soon rejoin in Kowloon.

18) In Kowloon there were a lot of street markets where cheap clothes, clocks, CDs and
video tapes could be bought.
